The 2019 General Assembly will be in Dallas, TX this year. Its set to begin on June 25 and go through June 28.

Two years ago, I waited too long to get a hotel reservation and ended up having to commute to the convention site. This was not a good situation.

So, even though I do not know for sure that my Session will be sending me (and reimbursing my expenses) to General Assembly this year, I have already reserved a room at the GA site to secure the discounted rate.

Other REs might consider the same course of action. These discounted hotel rooms (approx. $169/night) go quickly and the non-discounted rooms are significantly more expensive (approx. $300/night — and there’s no telling what you might have to spend off-site, plus parking and commuting hassles). Since there is no penalty for cancelling your reservation, as long as you do so at least four days prior to your first night’s reservation, it seems like a wise course of action to lock down a room in case you find yourself in a position to be a Commissioner at the 2019 General Assembly.

This year’s General Assembly will be held at the Hilton Anatole (2201 N. Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75207). You can call them at 1-214-748-1200 and ask for the rate for the PCA General Assembly.

If becoming a commissioner doesn’t work out for you this year, follow the hotel’s cancellation instructions so that you’re not on the hook for a hotel room you can’t use.

(I am told that you can also register for the General Assembly itself online and receive a discount code for your hotel reservation that you can use online. However, if it turns out that you can’t go to GA and you need a refund of your $450 Commissioner registration fee, you have to request it in writing and you will not get a full refund if you ask after May 23. See “cancellations and refunds” on this page: http://www.pcaac.org/general-assembly/commissioner-registration/ )
